investigating replacing #ziplib with 7zip library

After having worked with #ziplib (sharpziplib) for creating the archive creation cmdlets (write-zip etc), I'm not that happy with it. The APIs are fairly asymmetrical in places, even with algorithms with similar traits (single file versus container of files). It looks like the 7zip library is a better bet - all algorithms have a fairly unified interface, e.g. callback for progress etc. I'll post here as I continue to investigate.

Good! I'm using the GUI version of 7-zip and it is quite nice.

unfortunately this is looking to be a pretty tough job - the COM apis are undocumented/broken in 7z. There is a half decent wrapper on codeplex, but it wraps the 7za.exe program, so calls would be out of proc. yuck.
