Say goodbye to VS Setup project?

I think we should seriously consider different installer for the 1.1 release. There is no way of telling VS to register our dlls both under System32 and SysWow64 on x64 machines. Also, the VS SP1, including the Vista update beta, does nothing with the elevation issue.

Do you have any ideas? I'd prefer to stay with MSI. WiX looks quite good to me, though I've got no experience with it. I like the fact that the whole thing is number of xml scripts, no annoying gui.

this is a near useless reply, but I've heard great things about WiX.

Can this wait until after we release 1.1? I really want to get 1.1 out right after the PowerShell for Vista which will be around the end of this month. That's just a couple of weeks away.

hmmmmm... i will try out the WiX, to see how much work is it to convert from vdproj, and we shall decide then.
i'd really like the 1.1 to be a vista-ready and 64-bit-ready release.

Well I can't argue with your goals. :-) I'm just wary of any late/last minute changes that happen to be as significant as changing installer technologies. :-)
